Trials of Life

This weekend was not the weekend that we had planned. Friday was all around a bad day!! A really bad day!!! It was one of the days that if it could go wrong it did..well almost. The trials started early at work when the phone lines went down. While the quiet was nice it did create an atmosphere of chaos as managers tried to find the cause of the problem. It turned out that a major line had been cut at a construction site causing the phone lines to be down over a five mile radius.

When I took my lunch break to take Scott to work the battery light in the car went on. So after dropping him off at work I stopped to have it tested only to find out that the alternator was bad. Fortunately it lasted until I got home. But died completely at 1:00 am when I went to pick Scott up from the airport. The Lord enabled us to drive the car to the employee parking lot and we awaited our wonderful neighbor to come and pick us up. We are so blessed to have such a caring neighbor to come and get us at 1:30 in the morning!!! Thank You Jean!!!

Saturday my mom gave Scott and I rides to work and then me home again. In the end Scott ended up using one of their extra cars. The girls and I were stranded at home for the day which made for a long day.....we had plans for the evening and were disappointed to cancel. But we are rejoicing as Scott with the help of a co-worker was able to get the car fixed in between flights and we were able to go to church on Sunday!!!

Saturday was a tough day for Shoko as she was very homesick and cried most of the day. She was missing her first host family in Arizona. But Sunday she was doing much better and seems to be adapting well to our family. She is a really sweet girl.

Tomorrow Scott's parents are arriving for a short visit. It has been over a year since they last visited so we eagerly anticipating their arrival.

While the weekend was not the one we had planned and it seemed as if everything happened at once, we saw God's grace and mercy and we know that trials come to develop character in us and for us to lean on God for our strength.

It's a girl!!

Our family has changed alot in the last couple of hours. Tuesday evening we recieved a phone call asking us if we would like to host another Japanese girl. She was arriving that evening and had no home. We talked it over and decided that we would host again this year. So she arrived at our home this evening. Her name is Shoko. She has been here for about an hour and we are enjoying helping her get settled in and getting to know her. I think she will fit into our family quite well.

Otherwise not much is happening except that I have been trying so hard to upload some pictures, but so far it is to no avail. Hopefully soon I will get it figured out and you can see about our life as well as read about it.

Natosha's Birthday

Birthdays are officially over. Yesterday Natosha turned 14 and she is eager to go and take her driver's test to get her permit. I am sure when she gets it she will want to drive everywhere.

Her birthday started off with a surprise right away. I went and picked up her friend Rachel. She was just waking up when we got home and was really happy to see Rachel there. She wasn't really all that surprised. On Sunday I had received two phone calls and didn't tell her who called so she concluded that Rachel was coming over. Well, she was half right. The calls weren't from Mrs. Grady but from Mrs. Cabell. So Natosha was surprised when we pulled up at the Pizza Machine and Sara joined our group for a couple of hours. We had alot of fun at the Pizza Machine. We had never been there before so we enjoyed the variety of games and rides. We could have stayed there for alot longer if the playcard had lasted longer or if Scott had not had to got o work.

We took Scott to work and then Natosha enjoyed playing for several more hours with Rachel, until it was time to pick Scott up again. Mrs Grady met us at the airport to take Rachel home.

When we got home we opened presents, ate homemade ice cream and cake and concluded the day by watching a movie. It was a good birthday for Natosha. Thank You Rachel and Sara for helping to make the day special for her.

Happy Birthday, Natosha. Our family is so blessed to have you in it. I would not trade you for anything. May God bless you in the coming year and may you grow strong in your walk with Him.

Busy Weekend

This has been a busy weekend for our family. Thursday was Michaela's birthday. She turned 15.....scary to think that next summer she might be taking driver's ed. We asked her what she would like to do and she really wanted to go shopping and not have to rush. So we went to the mall and surprised her by meeting up with her freind Alyssa Zimmerman from church. They had a great time. When we picked them up we picked up dinner...Papa Murphy's by request. Then came home opened up presents and ate dinner with cheescake for dessert....yummy!!

On Friday I had another ssurpise for her. She came with Scott to Hobby Lobby and we met Anna Nelson there who came to our house and taught us how to make cards. It was a fun afternoon of laughter and creativity, I even tried my hand at a couple of cards and was pleasantly surprised at how easy it was.

Then came the last and biggest surprise of all. Alatheia Larson came over to spend the weekend with us. The girls were very surprised which in turn suprised me as I thought I had totally given it away that she was coming over. They had a fun weekend just hangin out.

On Sunday, my parents came over and we were finally able to share our Japan vacation pictures with them.

Michaela, I hope that your birthday was special and memorable. I trust you enjoyed all the surprises we had for you. My pray for you is that God would truly bless you in the coming year and that you would continue to be faithful in your walk with Him.

Today is Natosha's birthday...she is turning 14 and is eager to go in and take her driver's test tomorrow for her permit. We have a few fun things planned for her as well. Those details coming later....

First Timer

Well, I am going to attempt to join the blogging community. I have been enjoying reading other blogs and thought that I would like to start my own. But, as some of you know I am not a computer savvy person in the least. So, this may be a interesting endeavour:-) My good friend Alatheia is here helping me get started. Wish me luck and maybe this will last more than three days.
